ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser: A budget beast smartphone

ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser – Mid-2016, the Taiwanese smartphone brand ASUS  have released its Zenfone 3 variants in the market. They are the Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Max, Zenfone 3 Deluxe and Zenfone 3 Laser. All varies from different price range, features and specs.

Talking about what’s common among all these variants is that, all of them already have a fingerprint scanner attached on its rear panel. Sounds great, right?

Talking about a budget smartphone, the Zenfone 3 Max is the cheapest among all the variants but the Zenfone 3 Laser, with its more advanced feature than the Zenfone 3 Max is also worthy to be considered.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser specs:

Built and design

The Zenfone 3 Laser is definitely an upgrade with its predecessor, the ASUS Zefone 2 in terms of design. This is now made with an all-metal body with curved bezels and rounded edges that made it look more elegant, premium and expensive with the dimensions of 149 x 76 x 7.9 mm (5.87 x 2.99 x 0.31 in) and weight that’s 150 g (5.29 oz) that mase it more lighter and thinner than the predecessor. This 5.5″ smartphone has an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Specs:

Display, Battery and Connectivity

The phone’s display is a Full-HD resolution with 1080 x 1920 pixels (~401 ppi pixel density) that makes your entertainment and gaming experience extraordinary. The phone has a 3,000mAh non-removable Li-ion battery that allows you day of adventure without running out of power. This phone is also LTE capable with 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 5(850), 6(900), 7(2600), 8(900), 18(800), 19(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 41(2500) LTE band with a speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE Cat4 150/50 Mbps that makes your browsing experience superb. Just take note that the battery’s charging time is approximately 4hrs since the phone and other Zenfone 3 variants does not have fast-charging technology.

OS and Processor

The specs of this smartphone is not just something we should overlook with. Running with Android Marshmallow and the all-new Asus ZenUI 3.0, expect the device to be performing fast and the apps to be running smoothly. It also has the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 430 processor that offers a rich feature set for high-volume smartphones. Integrated X6 LTE, cutting-edge camera technology with dual-Image Signal processors, and a next-generation Qualcomm® Adreno™ 505 GPU mean Snapdragon 430 supports fast downloads and uploads, stunning graphics and photos with battery life to spare.

Memory and Sim

It has a memory and sim card slot that is hybrid. Why hybrid? It’s because it only has two slots available. You can either attach a sim card on both slots or a sim card and a memory card. This is probably the reason why it might be a big deal with those who have two sim cards because there’s no option to attach the memory card while using both sim cards.

The ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser has a 32 GB of internal storage for the 2 GB RAM variant or 64 GB of internal storage for the 4 GB RAM variant, whichever is available.

Camera

It has a 13 MP, f/2.0, laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash rear camera and an 8 MP, f/2.0 front camera that’s perfectly built for this budget smartphone. Level-up your photography skills because the photos are definitely crisp and vibrant. It also has a manual mode that lets you adjust the settings according your preference.

Additional features

As mentioned above, ASUS’ Zenfone 3 series has a fingerprint scanner located just below the rear camera. Although it is not as fast as the fingerprint scanners found on other smartphone brands, it works just fine.

Over-all performance and Price

Over-all, the device works just smoothly. The camera is perfect for a mid-ranged smartphone. Tho found few bugs with the Zenfone 3 Laser, it does have that what we call “Ghost-scrolling” (screen scrolls on it’s own) if you’re in a place with a low mobile data connection. The Philippine SRP for this smartphone is Php11,995.00.

This was the other phone I was thinking of getting. It was a tough choice since the ZenFone 3 had great reviews over its camera.

I was really amazed at how Asus was super cheap but glad that they did since it started the trend for cheap but powerful smartphones. Still love our Huawei P9 though, also since it was given for free. Haha.
