Triple Camera and On-Screen Fingerprint Scanner Now Pioneered by Vivo for Vivo Xplay 7

The Vivo Xplay 7 is the world’s first-ever smartphone with an on-display fingerprint scanner which was unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress. Aside from the on-screen scanner, it is also revealed that this smartphone will have a three-camera setup.

A leaked image shows the device on a presentation slide and is called the Vivo X20 (Xplay 7) and it has quite a surprising set of features – the on-screen fingerprint sensor and the most interesting triple-camera setup at the back that is designed vertically.

As of writing, there’s nothing else known about the device – the hardware specifications, the pricing, or how the three cameras will work are still not yet revealed. As we all know, dual camera smartphones are known to work by taking two different images and interpolating them to create the best possible image as what the most recent flagships by ASUS, LG, iPhone and Huawei. It’s still unclear tho as to how or why having three cameras is going to improve the quality even further at this point, considering that dual camera interpolation is still considered the recent trend in smartphone photography technology. But on my own personal note, this might be having an additional wide-lens added on the dual-camera set-up to make it more advanced. But that is still a guess and announcements will soon gonna be revealed once the phone will officially be announced or unveiled.

According to sources, It is also possible that the smartphone will be a waterproof one since during the Shanghai MWC, the smartphone was put into a water test to see if the on-screen fingerprint scanner will still work. If it is the case, then this will be a big competition to latest flagships since consumers doesn’t have to bring with them action cameras to use underwater.

There are three different color variants as shown on the leak for the Xplay 7, a white, a black and a gold version of the phone with no official names yet, and we might get additional colors later on. It’s also unclear when the device will be launched. If they want to really compete with the flagships, they should release the smartphone by the end of the year or before the year ends.
